Elderly Care

The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation supports select elderly care facilities in Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. Mrs. Whitehead was sympathetic to the welfare of elderly women of limited means, having grown up among older female family members who struggled to make ends meet. In establishing the Whitehead Foundation, Conkey Pate echoed his mother’s concern by professing “the greatest sympathy for elderly women … who have met with adversity in their declining years.”

The Foundation responds to this concern by awarding annual grants to elderly care facilities, including nursing homes and hospices. Grantee institutions use the grants to provide need-based financial assistance to elderly Christian women.

The Foundation does not provide financial assistance directly to individuals. If you are seeking aid for elderly care, please contact your institution for information on how to apply.

Please see below for a list of institutions that participate in our elderly care program. Note the Foundation rarely adds new institutions to this program. For more information, contact Joan McKelvey at mckelvey@woodruff.org.
