Cohort Highlights:
- Along with on-campus work and community service, students participate in scholarship programming and one-on-one meetings with the program coordinator.
- Programming includes:
- An annual orientation focused on the historical significance of the scholarship, community-building activities, and personal and professional development
- Individual semester check-in meetings with staff and student leaders
- Monthly community service groups with local partners
- Bi-weekly peer mentoring groups called “Lettie Pate Dates”
- Optional socials hosted by a student leadership team
- End-of-semester events focused on celebration and reflection
- Freshman meetings and activities focus on helping students gain a better understanding of personal strengths, interests and talents by encouraging engagement with the campus community and their cohort guide.
- Sophomore year focuses on helping students assess whether they are pursuing the most appropriate majors, on- and off-campus work, and co-curricular activities that will allow them to pursue future aspirations; this year includes a meeting inviting others invested in the student’s education to join the conversation.
- Junior year meetings and activities help students connect with opportunities to deepen experiences they have already had and begin to integrate those pursuits with their academic interests; discussions shift from self-discovery to community investment while researching career path options and filling gaps in their experiences.
- Senior year focuses on goal-setting for future after Berry.
