- Focus on students with need in the laboratory sciences with preference for minority applicants and first-generation college students
- Career preparation activities, community service projects, and professional development programs focused on strengthening the abilities and confidence of women in STEM fields
- LPW scholars assist the director of the program in executing the activities and vision of the program and in supporting new scholars
